Healthcare, Forests and Trees

I didn’t watch the 1st night of this debate, I went to see “To Kill a Mockingbird” on Broadway.  But watching tonight’s debate, so far, my time would be better spent watching bowling.  My plan’s better than your plan- you can’t call yours Medicare for All-  Senator Gillibrand had it right- we are missing the forest for the trees!  When your child is sick, you don’t care about the system, you care about your child.

First of all, let me state the obvious, YOU ARE NEVER GETTING RID OF PRIVATE CARE!  You’d have to outlaw capitalism and good luck with that.  Great Britain has the National Health Service AND private insurance- a friend is a nurse for a private hospital.  Secondly, I DON’T CARE!  Private insurers can make all the profit that they want as far as I’m concerned- as long as two conditions are met:  They provide better care for the same dollar or they provide the same care for less.  Isn’t it Republican dogma that Private companies are more efficient?

We spend more per capita than any other major economy in the world on health care, and yet we don’t cover everybody!  Prior to the passage of the Affordable Care Act 40% of all health care in America came with some level of government support.  Polls show that people who get their care through 100% government support- Medicare, Medicaid , and the VA are happier with their care than those who get private insurance.

NEWSFLASH:  You cannot keep your current employer based insurance no matter how much you like it if your employer changes his/her mind!  Chris Hayes pointed out that MSNBC has changed its insurance provider during his tenure there.  And also prior to the ACA if you got sick, your insurer was free to drop you from coverage.

Will somebody please tell Tweety that his question was wrong and Senator Warren’s answer was right!?  If I am spending $1000 per month on premiums for private insurance, which also has co-pays and deductibles, or $650 per month in higher taxes that eliminates all of that, I have at least $350 more in my pocket each month for my family.  Sure, my taxes went up, but my paycheck is higher at the end of the week.
