Grandpa Chris fell off his rocker yesterday during a MSNBC panel coverage of the New Hampshire primary.
In a rambling and unsolicited appraisal of Bernie Sanders’ openness to democratic socialism, Chris Matthews emotionally defined socialism (forget the “democratic” part) as being everything he hated in the good old days when he was a youthful reactionary conservative.
His MSNBC co-hosts seemed to be caught off-guard, and as they all watched in silent disbelief, his vitriolic tirade went on and on against his old enemy – anything socialistic, and now its newest purveyor - Bernie Sanders.
It was if Grandpa just woke up from his nap all feisty and ready to go on about whatever was lingering in his mind before his nap. And even as moderator Chris Hayes smiled to the audience seeming to appeal for its tolerance of Matthews in the same way you would tolerate Gramps who might be late for his medication, NO ONE (including Joy Reed) confronted Matthews nor offered any kind of logical counter-point as Matthews drooled and spewed his unsolicited and confused attack on Bernie visa vi his perceived tenets of socialism.
I am about as old as Chris Matthews, but I cannot defend his senescent ignorance, nor can I understand why he is allowed a prime time spot on MSNBC, except to satisfy our Baby Boomer Generation’s mostly obsolete views of the past.
That being said, due to our Boomer Generation’s general FAILURE OF RESPONSIBILITY toward the American social, political, and environmental landscape, I must sadly admit I am no longer a proud member.
I am retired. IT IS TIME FOR CHRIS MATTHEWS TO RETIRE.
Albeit, we both still may have many good things to offer this world, let the young determine their own fate now, just as we boomers have determined ours.
FINAL NOTE: SOME old people have earned a position of high esteem and are, regardless of age, still worthy and capable of leading us, like an old philosopher — I believe BERNIESANDERS is one of those rarities.
