I decided to tune into the latest Republican freak show after it was over. Translation: I watched what Chris Matthews and MSNBC was peddling afterwards. My only reason for doing so is that I wanted to get the Beltway Wisdom in early and out of the way. Next to Politico, Chris Matthews is a reliable outlet for what the Beltway wants to spin without descending into the sewer of Fox. However, I was surprised to see Mr. Establishment throwing excrement and scorn on Marco Rubio and his supporters in the debate audience.
And what was even more surprising was watching Mr. Republican, Michael Steele, agreeing with Chris Matthews.
For those of you who missed it, every time Rubio threw a verbal “punch” at Trump there was someone in the debate audience who shrieked. And I do mean he/she — sounded like one particular person, possibly a woman — was so shrill that I felt like I was getting a tooth filled and the anesthetic was wearing off. I winced every time this happened, and it happened far too frequently.
I’m a partisan and hate Republican politicians, so I thought, “Maybe it is just me, but Lord this is so fake!” I was wondering how much they paid this person to shriek. But my cynicism caught me and said, “Now Merlin, you know they won’t point this out to their viewers.” Heaven forbid that the media point out when Republicans are putting on a obvious and TERRIBLE show.
But there is Chris Matthews saying that this person was shrieking as if at a Frank Sinatra concert. He complained that it was clearly canned, and he actually sneered when he said it. He turned it over to Michael Steele, and Steele, with a clearly dejected look, said the whole thing was “annoying.”
OMG!
You know that you are in the shitter when Chris Matthews is pointing out how awful your showmanship — BS as we outside of the Beltway call it — truly is.
